Recipe: kawaii cookies
Baking cookies is something I do regularly with my kids. With a few basic ingredients you can bake delicious shortbread cookies. The kids and I think it's super fun to do. And of course we like it even more to eat the result. ;) Read on to make the recipe for shortbread cookies with kawaii faces.
Shortbread, the recipe
To make shortbread, you will need the following ingredients:
- 150 grams of butter
- 100 grams of white caster sugar
- 200 grams of flour
- 1 egg yolk
The necessities:
- a rolling pin
- a round cookie cutter
- a baking tray with parchment paper
Preparing cookies
- Put all ingredients in a mixing bowl and mix all ingredients until one whole. You can do this with a food processor, but it works just as well by hand. Make sure you mix everything well. When the dough is ready, put cling film over the mixing bowl and let the dough rest in the fridge for about 30 minutes.
- After those 30 minutes, preheat the oven to 175°C. You dust the kitchen worktop with flour and roll out (a piece of) the dough until it is about 3 to 4 mm thick. Then use the round cookie cutter to cut out the cookies. Place the cookies on the baking sheet. Not too close together, because the cookies will expand in the oven.
- When the oven is ready, put the baking tray in the oven and bake the shortbread for about 15 minutes. Depending on your oven, it may be necessary to bake the cookies a little shorter or a little longer.
- When the cookies are ready, let them cool down first. For example, put them on a grid. I myself cover a pizza plate with kitchen paper and place the cookies on it to cool. Excess fat is absorbed by the kitchen paper. Once the cookies have cooled, you can decorate them.
Decorate cookies
To decorate the cookies, I use Dr. Oetker Soft Topping and Dr. Oetker Decoration markers. I think the chocolate colors and the pink color of the Soft Topping go well together. Although I find it easier to work with the decoration markers. I find the pouch of the Soft Topping too big and uncomfortable to hold. Maybe it's something I need to get used to.
Decorating the cookies is entirely up to you. There are plenty of examples of kawaii faces on the internet. I have tried a few things and see the result on the right. <3 It's really fun to do and the cookies are yummy!! Fortunately, you can't screw up shortbread cookies in terms of taste. ;)
